Samantha who was introduced into the movie industry by Gautham Vasudev Menon in his movie Ye Maaya Chesave(Telugu) which was also made in Tamil with the title Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa went on to become a super duper hit for its great visuals, story, screenplay and also the fact that Gautham was working with AR Rahman for the first time and the songs became chart busters. However in the Tamil version Samantha only played a small role but in Telugu she played the lead.
The actress is currently filming
a bilingual "Neethaane En Ponvasantham" in Tamil which is Yeto Vellipoyindhi Manasu in Telugu and Assi Nabbe Poorey Sau in Hindi. She is also doing Autonagar Surya and Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu in Telugu along with Yevadu. In Tamil she has Kadal in which Gautham Karthik(song of actor Karthik) is making his debut.
